Panarea, known in ancient times as panarà ia (scattered), is the smallest island in the Aeolian archipelago. It is divided into three quarters: Ditella, San Pietro, and Drautto.
The island is surrounded by the small islands of Basiluzzo, Dattilo, Bottaro, and Spinazzola, by the rock formations of Lisca Bianca, Lisca Nera and the Formiche - all formed by the eruption of an ancient underwater volcano, which, according to experts, is the oldest in the Aeolian archipelago.
Cars cannot circulate on the unique alleyways that link the buildings, making Panarea a charming refuge from noise and pollution, and the most exclusive and uncontaminated island of the Aeolian archipelago.
